Schools Closed During Search for Escaped Inmates to Get State Aid

New York is granting full state aid to the school district in northern New York that closed for two days in June while authorities searched for two killers who escaped from the nearby maximum-security prison.

The law signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo ensures Saranac Central School District gets the state funding it would have normally received if it stayed open for the required 180 days during its 2014-2015 school year.

State Sen. Betty Little says the district already used up allotted extra days for snow closings.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says school officials made the right decision in the name of safety.
