Police Probe How Bleeding Stranger Got Into a New Jersey Elementary School

Police are trying to determine how a man who stabbed himself got into an elementary school in Passaic.

A custodian at Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School 10 called police after finding the 37-year-old on the floor bleeding around 5:25 a.m. Wednesday. The man's name has not been released, but NJ.com reports he has no connection to the school.

Detective Andy White tells The Record newspaper the man, who lives on Harrison Street, had stabbed himself and walked down to the school. White says the man had stab wounds to his neck, chin and lower abdomen.

The man is undergoing surgery for life-threatening injuries.

White says the school is safe.
