Police Seek Suspect in Abduction Attempt on Long Island

Police on Long Island on Saturday released a photograph of a suspect wanted in connection with a reported abduction attempt of a baby at a Kohl's store.

The victim told detectives she was shopping in the Kohl's at the Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream Thursday morning with her 18-month-old son when she needed to change his diaper. She said she tried the store's family restroom, but it was locked, so she headed for the women's bathroom.

The victim said she put her baby on the changing table and started to change him when a woman walked in and said, "This is a beautiful baby," detectives said. The woman walked around the restroom, then approached the victim and said, "Give me the baby,' and grabbed the infant's arm.

The victim pushed away the woman's arm, left the restroom and reported the incident to Kohl's security.

The suspect is described as a woman about 5 1/2 feet tall with long blond hair. She was wearing a blue jacket and yellow shirt at the time and was seen leaving Kohl's in a black livery vehicle.

Anyone with information about the identity of the suspect is asked to call the Nassau County Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-244-TIPS.
