Woman Killed, Man Badly Hurt After Car Strike at New Jersey Intersection: Police

A 44-year-old woman died and a 54-year-old man is hospitalized with serious injuries after a car struck both of them at a New Jersey intersection Friday morning, authorities say.

Police in Linden say the pedestrians, both from New York, were hit around 6:30 a.m. on Saint Georges Avenue by DeWitt Street.

The victims' names weren't immediately released; information on the driver, or a possible cause for the accident, also was not available.

Chopper 4 over the scene showed a sedan in the middle of the intersection, its front windshield completely smashed.

Saint Georges was closed in both directions between Ercama and Summit streets as authorities investigated. It reopened shortly after 9 a.m., but drivers were advised to expect lingering traffic delays in the area.
