Out of Order: Cops Fish 4 Stolen ATMs from Stream

On a tip, divers searched muddy stream near Flushing Meadow Park

New York City police fished four ATMs from a stream near the Flushing Meadows tennis center today and are looking into whether the thefts are linked to a pattern.

Valentin Garcia, 34, of Queens, was arrested April 29 on charges of grand larceny and is being held in connection with three incidents where ATMs were stolen.

Garcia has been accused of ramming a stolen white van into the ATMs, then lugging the machines away and stealing the cash. Some machines have as much as $12,000 in them, police said.

On a tip, divers searched the muddy stream Friday near a lake in Flushing Meadow Park in Queens, and pulled four ATMs that had been smashed.

No money was recovered. Police are investigating whether these were part of the same theft pattern.
