OTB Delays Shutdown, 1,300 Layoffs

The city's Off-Track Betting Corp. has voted to suspend for a week Sunday's deadline to shut down parlors and lay off 1,300 workers.

The OTB board voted today to suspend the layoff notices and keep parlors open as Gov. David Paterson and legislative leaders continue to negotiate a long-term solution to the agency's cash flow problems.

Under the resolution adopted by the board, the layoffs are temporarily suspended and the shutdown is postponed no longer than April 18.

But officials of the New York City Off-Track Betting Corp. said they are optimistic a deal will be struck by then to continue OTB's operations.
