NYC Man Dies in Cliff Fall at Popular Hiking Mountain

Authorities are investigating the death of a New York City man who apparently fell while hiking at a popular suburban mountain.

The Poughkeepsie Journal says the body of 48-year-old Jason Kindopp was found on July 17 down the side of a cliff in thick brush and trees.

The area, known as Breakneck Ridge, straddles the border between Philipstown in Putnam County and Fishkill in Dutchess County. It's considered one of the more challenging hikes in the region.

State parks spokesman Randy Simons says rescuers rappelled about 30 feet in "extremely dangerous" terrain to retrieve the body.

The Putnam County coroner's office is determining his cause of death.
