NY Woman Who Came to Jersey Shore for Wedding Dies After Getting Caught in Rip Current

Authorities say a New York woman who came to the Jersey shore to attend a wedding has died after she apparently got caught in a rip current while swimming at an unguarded beach with her boyfriend.

Long Beach Township police say 24-year-old Kristi Pisano, of Port Chester, was knocked over by a wave and then pulled out by the current around 11 a.m. Saturday.

Pisano was unresponsive when she was pulled from the water and witnesses started performing CPR on her before police arrived on scene. Emergency responders later used a defibrillator on Pisano, who eventually was flown to a hospital in Philadelphia, where she died early Sunday.

Pisano's boyfriend wasn't injured in the incident. The couple was in the area to attend his sister's wedding later that day.
