Five people were shot, including a 10-year-old girl, while gathered outside for a vigil in Newark, N.J., Thursday night to mourn the death of a man killed in a car accident.
Police say the group was gathered outside on 16th Street shortly before 10 p.m. when the shooter drove up in a dark-colored vehicle, got out and fired several shots. He got back in the vehicle and fled.
"I just heard the gunshots and then when I looked out the window, I seen yelling and screaming," said Tallyn Summers.
The girl was shot in the ankle and is listed in stable condition. The other four victims -- a 22-year-old woman shot in the buttocks, a 46-year-old woman shot in the arm, a 48-year-old man shot in both legs and a 25-year-old man with an arm wound -- are also expected to be OK.
Police are reviewing area surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police at 877 NWK-TIPS.
