New Subway Ads Decry Proposed Fare Hike

Ads can be seen in 3,000 subway cars

A straphangers group has launched an ad campaign to mobilize new Yorkers oppose fare hikes and service cuts -- and the campaign starts right in the subway car.

The ads can be seen starting Monday in 3,000 New York City subway cars – nearly half of all subway cars in the city, The Empire State Transportation Alliance said.

The ads urge Gov. David Paterson and state leaders to support a plan that would provide critical funds to the MTA to help close its $1.2 billion operating deficit.

The ad urges riders to go to a website – www.KeepNewYorkMoving.org –and send a message “to Gov. Paterson and your state legislators demanding more reliable funding for New York’s growing transit needs.”
