Man Accused of Killing Ex-Girlfriend Before Being Hit By Train Loses Bid to Lower Bail

A judge has refused to lower the $5 million cash bail for a former NYPD officer who authorities say threw himself in front of a train after hacking his ex-girlfriend to death at her New Jersey home.

Arthur Lomando's lawyers wanted his bail lowered to $250,000, or to $1 or $2 million with a bond alternative. They noted that he lost both feet after being hit by the train and needs specialized treatment.

But Bergen County prosecutors opposed the request during Monday's hearing. They said the Centereach, New York, man has "repeatedly thumbed his nose at this court" and has previously faced similar charges.

Lomando has pleaded not guilty to killing Suzanne Bardzell in Midland Park in October 2014.
