A 12-year-old girl admitted that she made up claims that a man tried to snatch her off the street while she walked to school in New Jersey Tuesday morning, authorities say.
Police first responded to Bayview Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive in Jersey City after the girl claimed a man in a green van pulled up and tried to make her get in the car. She said she was able to get away from the man, who drove off.
Later Tuesday, authorities said that the girl recanted her story. It's not clear why she made the claims up.
