New Yorkers will stay have to wait for the bus -- but now they'll, at least, be waiting armed with the knowledge of when the slow-roller is projected to arrive.
Soon, the MTA will display electronic countdown displays at shelters along 34th streets bus routes to let riders see exactly how many minutes are left until the next bus shows up, the New York Times reported, quoting officials familiar with the plan.
The TA is going high-tech and will use satellite tracking and GPS devices to estimate the arrival times in the new pilot program, which is a joint effort between the MTA and the city’s transportation department, according to the Times.
The system will use technology provided – for free – by Clever Devices, a Long Island company that installed a similar system in Chicago in 2006, the Times reported.
Officials are expected to make an announcement about the system later today.
