Three Long Island police officers helped deliver a baby on the side of a road early Wednesday morning, the Suffolk County Police Department said.
Officer Joseph Ferro was on patrol when he saw a car stopped on the side of the road on Deer Park Avenue, just south of Jericho Turnpike, in Dix Hills at about 2 a.m., police said.
He approached the car, and the driver told Ferro his 32-year-old wife was in labor.
Officers Gerard Maxim and Jonathan Murray, who were also patrolling nearby, responded, and they all helped deliver a healthy baby girl at 2:21 a.m., police said.
The couple and the baby were taken to Huntington Hospital.
