Suffolk County health officials say a Babylon resident has been confirmed as the first person on Long Island this year to contract the West Nile virus.
The person, described only as an adult younger than 55 years old who experienced fever, headache, muscle aches and a stiff neck, was hospitalized for four days beginning July 30.
The person has recovered but state health officials are reviewing another possible West Nile case in Suffolk, according to Newsday.
In 2011, Suffolk reported four confirmed cases of the virus in humans and Nassau County reported 16, according to state records.
