LIRR service was expected to be completely restored by 6:30 a.m. Tuesday after several branches remained offline Monday evening, the MTA said.
Service was a lot iffier on Monday, when the system was only partially restored.
Wayne Westervelt of Port Washington, New York, went to his Long Island Rail Road station while enroute to a doctor appointment at Manhattan's Hospital for Special Surgery.
That's when he learned that "the entire thing was suspended due to freezing."
He had the option of getting a train to Mineola. But he says it was "mobbed."
Westervelt says getting around "is not the most comfortable thing" with a bad hip. He decided to avoid a "sardine can" ride and headed back home.
He rescheduled his appointment for a month down the road.
Still, he remained upbeat.
Says Westervelt: "Things happen. What are you going to do?"
