A man suffered a partial leg amputation after falling into a wood chipper on Long Island Sunday, authorities said.

Robert Fischer, 72, was using a wood chipper outside of a West Babylon home on 15th Street when his right leg got caught in the machine, police said.

His son was able to free him from the machine, police said.

Fischer was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip. His leg had to be partially amputated, police said. Information on his condition hasn't been released.

The machine was impounded for a safety check and U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified.
