A northern New Jersey man who stabbed his wife and four children after the couple agreed to separate is now headed to state prison.
Jai Finley, of Jersey City, was sentenced Friday to 15 years in state prison for attempted murder. He also received a concurrent 10-year term for aggravated assault.
Hudson County prosecutors say the attacks occurred in January 2011, after the couple had argued in their home.
When Finley approached his wife, she thought he was planning to kiss her goodbye before he left their home. But he instead used a hunting knife to stab her 13 times, then attacked their 6-year-old son and her 16-, 10- and 8-year-old daughters.
Finley's wife and her eldest daughter both required emergency surgery. The other children were treated for superficial wounds.
