Authorities are investigating the cause of an explosion that leveled a house on Long Island.
The owner of the home was in the hospital at the time of the explosion. No one else was inside.
A pile of rubble now stands where the house in Elmont once stood.
Nassau County police said a 911 caller reported the explosion at 1:35 a.m. Tuesday.
Neighboring homes were evacuated as a precaution while firefighters from numerous departments responded.
A firefighter was treated for an eye injury.
