Police say a former standout high school wrestler was killed in a New Year's Day crash in New Jersey.

State police say 21-year-old Alexander Sebahie was traveling north on Garden State Parkway in Ocean County when his car left the road and struck a utility pole around 4:15 a.m.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sebahie won more than 100 bouts as a wrestler at Paramus High School and received a partial scholarship to Rider University.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
