A New York City firefighter has been accused of helping to grow more than 100 marijuana plants in the basement of a rented house.
The U.S. attorney's office for the Eastern District said firefighter Patrick Murray was arraigned on charges of manufacturing and possessing a controlled substance with the intent to distribute.
Court documents filed by prosecutors said investigators believe Murray is a member of a larger drug-trafficking crew that produces pot at “grow houses” in Queens.
Murray did not enter a plea during his arraignment in Brooklyn's federal court on Wednesday. He was released on $250,000 bond.
FDNY spokesman James Long said Murray is a five-year veteran and was based at Engine Company 292 in Woodside, Queens. Long said the firefighter has been suspended without pay.
