Authorities in New Jersey say human remains found by an engineering crew are those of a man who went missing more than a decade ago.
Manchester Township police say the crew was working in a wooded, swampy area on Tuesday when it found a skull. They called police, and further excavation uncovered additional remains and personal items that led authorities to identify the remains as those of William Schmidbauer, a township resident who was 64 when he went missing in September 2007.
Authorities don't suspect foul play but a state police forensic anthropologist will examine the remains.
Schmidbauer's remains were found about 1.5 miles away from his home, where the Army veteran lived. Authorities had conducted numerous searches over the years to find him, including one done last year.
