Armed Man Robs 5 Livery Drivers in the Bronx Within a Week: Cops

An armed man is linked to at least five robberies of livery drivers in the Bronx within a week, police say.

The NYPD says the unknown man’s crime spree began on Sept. 18 when he got into a livery vehicle stopped at a red light near 169th Street and Third Avenue in Fordham and whipped out a gun. The suspect demanded the driver to get out of the car before he fled with it, police said.

The suspect then struck again three other times within four days and got away with the livery car each time, according to officials. In one robbery, he put a large knife to a victim’s throat.

Police say this man is going around the Bronx and robbing livery cab drivers.

The suspect, described as being about 200 pounds with a beard, struck a fifth time on Monday around 1 a.m. when he put a driver into a chokehold while he put a gun to the victim’s body, police said. The driver resisted and the suspect than ran away empty-handed.

Police released surveillance footage from inside the car during one of the robberies that shows the man holding a long, black knife and crawling over a seat. Investigators urge witnesses to call Crime Stoppers with tips that could stop the suspect from striking a sixth time.
