At Stake in World Series: Junior's Cheesecake, Kansas City BBQ

The World Series is spawning a number of friendly wagers between officials in each of the two states where the Fall Classic is being played.

  • Mayor Bill de Blasio has tweeted Kansas City Mayor Sly James to wager New York's Junior's Famous Cheesecake for some Kansas City barbeque.

  • Gov. Andrew Cuomo has agreed to wear a Royals jersey for a full day of work if they win. Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon will wear a Mets jersey if New York takes it.

Each governor has also prepared a basket of home state goodies, including ribs from Kansas City and bagels from Queens. The winning governor gets the basket.

Cuomo said there is no doubt in his mind the Mets win it all. Nixon said that this year is the Royals' year.

  • U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, a New York Democrat, said Tuesday that if the Kansas City Royals beat the New York Mets in the Series, he has promised Sen. Claire McCaskill he will tweet a photo of himself wearing a Royals T-shirt while riding a bicycle through New York City. He also will donate $100 to a Major League Baseball Urban Youth Academy in Kansas City.

If McCaskill, a Missouri Democrat, loses the bet, she has promised to tweet a photo of a Mets flag on the flagpole outside her home and to donate $100 to efforts to rebuild a Queens church that burned down last winter.
