Timothy Wright's Son to Take Over Brooklyn Church

The son of the late Grammy-nominated gospel singer Timothy Wright will be installed as pastor of his father's Brooklyn church.

David Wright, who's 30, will become leader of the Grace Tabernacle Christian Center Church of God in Christ on Sunday, a family spokesman said.
       
His father, the Rev. Timothy Wright, died in April. He had been paralyzed from the neck down following a July 2008 car crash in Pennsylvania that killed his wife and 14-year-old grandson.

The late Rev. Wright helped build the Crown Heights church and led its congregation for 20 years. The church was a pillar of the community and home to thousands of worshipers.  Rev. Wright's close friend from childhood, the Rev. Al Sharpton, said he would be "tremendously missed, but his voice will be eternal."

Rev. released more than a dozen gospel recordings, writing many of the songs, and was known for his booming vocals.

In 1994, his record "Come Thou Almighty King," with the New York Fellowship Mass Choir, made the Billboard Top 20 charts for gospel albums and was nominated for a Grammy for best traditional soul gospel album.

In addition to David, Wright had four other sons: Danny, 39; Donny, 34; Derrick, 28, and Dwayne, 26.
