Authorities are investigating a sex attack on an 89-year-old woman in Rockland County.
Police say the victim is experiencing the early stages of memory loss, which accounts for some lack of information regarding the attack.
Authorities said the sex crime classification was based on a medical exam of the woman following the attack, which they say was sometime between 5 p.m. Tuesday and 5 a.m. Wednesday near College Avenue and First Street in Nanuet.
Details on the woman's condition and the circumstances of the attack weren't available.
"(The victim's memory loss is) a challenge for our investigators to come up with additional information than what we have," said Pete Walker of the Clarkstown Police Department.
He added, "This is certainly something that is way out of the norm for any part of this town."
Police are asking anyone who may have seen a suspicious man in the area in the 12-hour time frame to contact Clarkstown detectives at 845-639-5800.
