Sarah Lawrence College Tops Forbes List as Most Expensive

Despite a gloomy job market and the precarious state of many families finances, it seems that many people are still willing to fork big bucks for an education.

According to Forbes magazine in its list of most expensive colleges, Bronxville’s Sarah Lawrence College tops the chart, costing $57,556 for tuition fees and room and board. And that doesn’t even include books or any other personal expenses or a $1780 charge for accident and sickness insurance.

“Unlike any other college, Sarah Lawrence requires individual, biweekly student-faculty meetings, as part of every seminar (approximately 94 percent of our classes),” said college President Karen Lawrence to Forbes.

“As a result, our students spend almost twice the time in one-on-one discussion with faculty as students at other prestigious liberal arts schools," she said.

The research and surveys used to compile the list did not include financial aid, which is received by 65 percent of Sarah Lawrence students.

Other New York schools on the list include #3, Bard College, located in Annandale-on-Hudson, and #2, Columbia University, located in Harlem. Their yearly tuition is  $54,275 and  $54,385 repsectively.
