Report: Siblings in NJ Child Death Also Abused

A report says the surviving siblings of a New Jersey girl who was found dead from injuries and malnutrition also suffered extreme abuse.

The Star-Ledger of Newark reports that a petition from the Division of Youth and Family Services says the children were beaten, tied to a radiator in a dark pantry, compelled to pray and forced to go to the bathroom in a bucket.

Child welfare officials investigated four complaints of suspected abuse in the home and found all to be unfounded.

Eight-year-old Christiana Glenn was found dead May 22 from malnutrition and an untreated broken leg.

The children's mother, Venette Ovilde faces aggravated manslaughter and child endangerment charges. Her roommate, Myriam Janvier, is also charged with child endangerment.

Both women have pleaded not guilty.
