Rep. Fossella Still Has Friends?

His political career has taken a downturn, but Rep. Vito Fossella got a lot of love from supporters at a luncheon on Sunday.

Nearly 1,000 people attended the event on Staten Island, including Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who thanked Fossella for the work he had done in Congress for New York.

Fossella was sentenced this week to five days in jail for drunken driving. His May 1 arrest led to revelations he had fathered a child through an affair with a former Air Force officer. The congressman has a wife and three children in his home district.

He chose not to seek re-election and will leave Congress next month. His lawyers have said they will appeal his sentence.
