NYC Transit System Appoints New President

New York City's transit system has a new president.

Veronique "Ronnie" Hakim was appointed Tuesday as president of New York City Transit.

The agency — an arm of the MTA — oversees the transportation of more than 8 million daily commuters on subways and buses in New York City.

Hakim worked for the MTA for 23 years and also served as the executive director of NJ Transit. She also worked for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority.

"Subway and bus customers have high expectations for the network they rely on every day, and I look forward to meeting their expectations of safety, reliability and quality at New York City Transit," Hakim says.”

MTA Chairman Thomas Prendergast says Hakim has a proven track record and brings a new vision, making her the right person for the job.

“Ronnie’s comprehensive transportation experience, her detailed vision for the future and her demonstrated ability to bring real improvements to customers make her the right person to tackle New York City Transit’s challenges now,” Prendergast said.

Hakim will begin her new role Dec. 28. She replaces an interim president who took over after Carmen Bianco retired in August.
