A two-hour police standoff at a Brooklyn apartment building came to a violent end Wednesday afternoon after a gunman shot himself in the head, police said.
Emergency units were trying to revive the suspect after police found him with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a Bed-Stuy bedroom around 4:30 p.m. Police said he had two firearms underneath him.
The man had barricaded himself in a fourth-floor apartment of the Gates Avenue building following an earlier shooting shortly before 2 p.m. Police said the suspect shot a 28-year-old man twice outside a laundromat, then he ran across the street before barricading himself in the building.
It’s believed the gunman and victim were in some sort of tenant-landlord dispute, although the details of the incident are still being worked out by investigators, police said.
"We believe it was some sort of landlord-tenant dispute," NYPD Assistant Chief Jeffrey Maddrey said.
The 28-year-old victim was taken to Kings County Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He is expected to survive.

NYPD hostage negotiators and emergency crews rushed to the intersection of Gates and Tompkins avenues after the shooting. Heavily armored officers were at the scene for hours as the suspect remained holed up on the fourth floor. Armed tactical officers stood guard from above with guns pointed toward the building.
"The responding officers realized that the male who had fired the shots earlier was still inside the building," Maddrey said. "We secured the building and started making dialogue."
Police said no hostages were taken.
"I don't think any of us in the businesses here had any fear that something was going to happen," Kim Kilduff of Bed-Stuy said. "It seemed like it was contained, and it was a personal dispute."
The suspect was listed in critical condition Wednesday evening.
