Clinton Focuses as Trump Gains Steam

As her national lead shrinks in the final days of the race after the FBI's renewed examination of her email practices, Hillary Clinton is relying on a firewall of support from women and minority voters in demographically diverse swing states. In Pennsylvania, Donald Trump’s running mate Mike Pence slammed President Obama's healthcare plan for "killing jobs" and destroying small businesses and promised Trump will repeal and replace Obamacare if elected. Meanwhile, an analysis has found that Clinton's chances of winning 270 electoral votes have hardly changed from last week.

Officers Killed in Iowa Ambushes

Police in Iowa said two officers were shot and killed in separate "ambush-style attacks" in the greater Des Moines area on Wednesday morning. Police were searching for the shooter. It’s not the first ambush on police officers this year. In July, five officers were killed in Dallas and three officers were killed in Baton Rouge.

Suffolk County Police Chief Sentencing

A police chief who beat a handcuffed man bloody for stealing embarrassing items from his department vehicle faces more than four years in prison when he is sentenced Wednesday. In a letter this week, federal prosecutors said that charges may be looming for accomplices who helped Suffolk County Police Chief James Burke cover up the crime.

NY “Smart” Lake Nears Completion

The “world’s smartest lake” will be in upstate New York. A $917,000 National Science Foundation grant has ensured the completion of a project that aims to connect Lake George to the internet of things.
