NJ Plans Change in Amber Alert Rules

New Jersey officials say they will begin allowing Amber Alerts to be broadcast in some domestic custody cases.
    
Currently, the state's rules discourage use of the alerts in domestic cases.
    
The state Attorney General's Office began re-examining the policy after an incident in February when a father allegedly
abducted his infant daughter, then threw her into the Raritan River. It took four hours before an Amber Alert was ready to be issued. By then, the man had already been arrested.
    
Attorney General Paula Dow told lawmakers at a state budget hearing Wednesday that changes could be announced next week.
    
The Statehouse bureau of The Star-Ledger of Newark and Record of Bergen County first reported the plan to change the guidelines.
