Museums Adding Free Hours

More options for Culture on the Cheap

Amid all the bad news about the economy, there is some good news coming out of the city's museums.

NewYorkology travel site, which has compiled its fall/winter edition of pay-what-you-wish for museum entrance fees.

This latest edition of the list includes no cutback in offerings from earlier lists of free hours. In fact, new ones have joined the list, including the Studio Museum in Harlem (where the Sunday free days are sponsored by Target.)

This season there's something free on the list every day of the week, although Friday night's the most loaded. Free Friday offerings include the Museum of Modern Art , the Guggenheim, the Whitney and the International Center for Photography, where regular adult admission would cost you $20, $18. $15 and $12, respectively.

Thursday's not so bad either, with free entry at the newly reopened Museum of Arts & Design, (normally $15) as well as the New Museum on the Bowery (normally $12.) And while the American Museum of Natural History earlier this year dropped its free jazz series "due to a reduction in City funding," admission to the museum itself remains by suggested donation.
