Motorcyclist Crushed When Rescuers Drop Car: Report

A motorcyclist who crashed and became pinned under a car died after rescue workers dropped the vehicle on him, according to a report.

The New York Post says Karam Rampersaud, 21, crashed into a Ford Taurus Thursday morning in East New York.

Police and firefighters working to free him from beneath the car tried to lift it with a jack, but dropped the vehicle on him from about 4 feet up, the Post said.

"Then the car just dropped right back down. Right on him. Everybody in the crowd screamed," witness James Selder told the Post.

"A firefighter cursed at another guy and yelled, 'What are you doing?'"

Another witness, Crystal Robinson, told the paper that "after the car fell on him, he didn't make a sound."

Police told the Post that he died of injuries from the crash, and that tools were in place to keep the car off his body.
