Truck Hits, Kills Driver on NJ Turnpike Off-Ramp

Police say a limo driver stepped out of his vehicle and was struck and killed by another car near exit 14 in Newark

State police say a motorist who got out of a vehicle on a New Jersey Turnpike off-ramp was struck and killed moments later by a tractor-trailer.

The driver was struck at about 5 a.m. Sunday on the ramp leading to Interchange 14, not far from Newark Liberty Airport.

The driver apparently had been traveling southbound in the outer roadway of the turnpike shortly before making the turnoff. It's not clear why the driver exited the vehicle, but authorities say several minor accidents had been reported in the area around that time due to icy road conditions.

The name of the person killed and the truck driver were not disclosed. No charges have been filed, but the investigation is ongoing.

No other injuries were reported in the crash.
