Last Legionnaires' Outbreak Linked to Psych Center, NYC Officials Say

The city's most recent outbreak of Legionnaires' disease has been traced to a cooling tower at the Bronx Psychiatric Center, city health department officials say.

The Legionella strain found in the cooling tower matched samples taken from four patients afflicted with the disease during the outbreak in East Bronx, officials said.

The cooling tower was disinfected on Aug.5 and showed no signs of the bacteria in an Aug. 17 test. The tower is offline for the winter.

There have been no reported cases of Legionnaires' disease in the city since September 28, health officials said.
