3 Hikers Rescued From Side of Mountain in NY Park

Three people were rescued after venturing off a trail while climbing a mountain at a state park in Nyack.

Officers were called to rescue the three hikers at around 1:30 p.m. Monday at Nyack Beach State Park.

Authorities say the three hikers -- a 22-year-old Irvington, New York resident, a 22-year-old Corona, Queens resident and a 21-year-old Germantown, New York resident -- ventured off a trail and climbed up park of Hook Mountain, but ended up stuck on a plateau about 250 feet up and couldn't get down.

One of the hikers was able to make it to the bottom of the mountain. The other two were rescued by firefighters.

Nyack Fire Department Vincent Reid said the hikers didn't heed warning signs telling them to stay on the trail. They were issued tickets for going off an established trail.

They were not injured.
