Driver on Heroin Struck and Killed Pedestrian: NJ Police

An Upstate New York man was under the influence of heroin when he struck and killed a 65-year-old man in the parking lot of a pharmacy in New Jersey, police said Saturday.

Troy Saucier, 24, of Suffern in Rockland County, had to be revived by police with Narcan when they found him unresponsive after the Friday night incident, investigators said.

Saucier drove his Jeep Liberty onto a sidewalk in Elmwood Park where he hit 65-year-old Rasim Hida, Bergen County prosecutors said. Hida was later pronounced dead at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center.

Saucier was charged with vehicular homicide and drug charges. He was jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail and will be arraigned Tuesday. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney who could comment on the charges.

Police said they found drugs and drug paraphernalia in Saucier's vehicle.
