Dog Put to Sleep After Being Beaten, Injured by LI Man: Police

The dog's injuries included fractures to her head and face, trauma to the body and a broken forearm

Police say a dog had to be put to sleep after being beaten and seriously injured by a Long Island man.

Steven Errante of Mastic was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and second-degree assault for beating a Labrador mix that police found last week, officials said.

The dog's injuries included fractures to her head and face, trauma to the body and a broken forearm. She had been taken to an emergency veterinary clinic and then transferred to an animal hospital before being euthanized.

Information on a lawyer for Errante, who was scheduled to be arraigned today, was not immediately available.
