Charges Against Long Island Hate Gang Are Called “Weak”

Ecuadorean officials seek murder charges for teens that preyed upon immigrant

Seven teenagers accused in the fatal stabbing of an Ecuadorean immigrant are due back in court on Long Island.

The teenagers are expected to appear at a hearing Friday morning at Suffolk County First District Court in Central Islip.

Meanwhile, Ecuadorean officials are calling for charges against one of the teenagers accused of fatally stabbing Marcello Lucero to be upgraded to second-degree murder.

The charges against one of the teens, 17-year-old Jeffrey Conroy, are "very weak," Jorge Lopez , Ecuador's consul general in Queens said. The teen has been arrested and charged with manslaughter as a hate crime.  The other six teens have been charged with gang assault

The consul-general is also investigating whether civil rights charges can be brought against the teenager.
