A 42-year-old woman died after a driver struck her while she was standing in a designated pedestrian area on a median, police said.

Heriberta Ramirez, of Staten Island, was standing on the center median on Bay Street, at Grant Street, around 9:50 p.m. on Friday when a driver in a dark-colored SUV traveling south on Bay Street passed another vehicle and struck her, the NYPD said.

Ramirez was knocked several feet by the impact and landed underneath a parked vehicle, according to police. She was taken to Richmond University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, the NYPD said.

The driver, who was speeding while passing the other vehicle, kept driving south on Bay Street after hitting Ramirez, police said.

Police haven’t yet arrested the driver, and an investigation is ongoing.
