11 NYC Transit Workers Earn Heroism Medals

Eleven New York City Transit workers are being honored as heroes for rescuing riders from oncoming trains and helping endangered employees in the nation's largest transit system.

Officials awarded medals for heroism in a ceremony Friday at the Transit Museum in Brooklyn.

Four winners rescued a man from the tracks as a subway train approached a Brooklyn station in October. Another honoree lost a tooth in an assault in January after aiding a transit agent being threatened by a man in a Manhattan subway station.

Eighteen transit workers received commendation medals for their unselfish acts. Five employees were awarded distinguished service medals.
