Tickets Still on Sale for Friday’s Jeff Buckley Tribute

CELEB DEATH Jeff Buckley

Here is the perfect Irish celebration and antithesis to today’s parade of brosefs.

Gary Lucas, heralded by the New Yorker as "the thinking man's guitar hero," curates a tribute to gentle singer/songwriter Jeff Buckley tomorrow at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn. The event is held in partnership with the estate of Jeff Buckley and proceeds benefit Road Recovery.

Buckley, who rose to fame in the East Village folk scene of the early ‘90s (and was half Irish!), released one studio album, 1994’s Grace. It contains his legendary cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” very arguably more gorgeous and heartbreaking than the original, and won accolades from publications such as Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, and the Guardian.

Buckley drowned in Memphis, Tennesee’s Wolf River in 1997 while in the process of recording the follow-up album, which would have been titled My Sweetheart the Drunk. He was 30 years old.

Lucas’s night in memoriam brings together many established local artists, including Jann Klose and Jeffrey Lewis. Tickets are still on sale.
