Phillip Lim Pushes New Menswear Line with New Video Short

Designer Phillip Lim only recently launched a menswear component to his line, but he's already winning accolades in the form of a CFDA award nomination. In our recent interview with the designer, he said he was looking at ways to "push the boundaries with menswear," an area of the business which can often feel like "a slower progression" than womenswear.

One way it looks like the brand is doing that is by launching an artful short film called Weavers, which showcases the fall 2011 collection up close and on the move -- not on a runway, but among parking lots and concrete buildings. The film, directed by San Francisco-based photographer and filmmaker Andrew Paynter, debuted in today's edition of

The collection's rug-making workmanship and tapestry influences shine through in the footage. As Lim told

"We’re always trying to get a mental picture of the man we’re designing for," he says. "But he’s a little bit of a mystery; we only get glances. This film is our attempt to capture that experience of seeing someone in snatches."

In addition to the film, has Lim's summer "hit list," from Church's Penny Loafers to A Tribe Called Quest.
