Mulberry Names New Bag After Lana Del Rey

When Mulberry launched the "Alexa" bag in 2009 -- named for It-girl Alexa Chung -- the brand created a sensation, and versatile carryall has been flying off shelves ever since. Now, the brand is launching a new bag with a new muse -- Lana Del Rey.

The singer made a front row appearance -- alongside stars like Michelle Williams -- at Mulberry's show at London Fashion Week, carrying the brand's latest tote, dubbed the "Del Rey."

According to a press release, Mulberry creative director Emma Hill met Del Rey last year and was -- like many others in the fashion set -- really taken by both the singer's voice, looks, and her single, "Video Games":

"I love Lana’s nostalgic references to bygone glamour and the fact that her look is retrospective yet so modern. This inspired us to create a bag that was timeless, refined and elegant, yet with a beautiful practicality that would suit any woman. We love its perfect proportions and effortless simplicity. As soon as the sketches were completed it felt so familiar, loaded with classic Mulberry heritage DNA."

The bag certainly does have a classic vibe to it -- a simple front-flap satchel with a soft, rounded silhouette that seems almost '50s-inspired.

The bag will be available in certain finishes -- Deer Brown Grainy Print, Black Forest Soft Matte, Black Soft Spongy, and Petrol Veg Tanned Lambskin -- starting in May, then the oversize version (as well as other "catwalk" washes like Gold Large Metallic Snake Print and Ink Blue Sparkle Croc Print) will be available starting in September.
