Flying a bit under the radar because of its stinky big brother is the Department of Sanitation's proposed salt shed at the nexus of Canal, Spring and West Streets in Hudson Square—the companion piece to the super-controversial garbage truck garage. There have been complaints about the design as well as the shed being open on its eastern side, which faces the big Holland Tunnel ventilation shaft (salt shower, anyone?), but we had yet to see the shed design. Consider us now appropriately seasoned, because according to the proposal's opponents, DSNY issued the above final glimpse on Friday night in advance of a City Planning Commission vote on the project on October 7. If approved the garage and shed will head to the City Council and likely face a lawsuit or two, not to mention the world's largest margarita glass (you know some tequila publicist is already planning the PR stunt).
