Eight Alternative Fitness Classes


There's never been any shortage of zany new workouts in New York City, but with spring in full swing (in calendar, anyway), it may just be the right time to check out a few new classes to inspire you all over again.

Refinery 29 has collected eight alternative fitness classes in New York City in a slideshow. For photos, descriptions, and prices, head over to their site. Below is an overview of the classes:

  • AntiGravity Yoga at Om Factory. From the website: "Om Factory combines traditional yoga principles with elements from aerial acrobatics, dance, pilates and calisthenics."
  • Caponyasa at Pure Yoga East. From the website: "A fusion of Capoeira technique, modern dance, and vinyasa yoga."
  • FlyBarre at FlyWheel Sports. From the website: "This revolutionary form of body sculpting blends the best of yoga, dance, circuit training, pilates and strength building."
  • Combat Fighting at Israeli Krav Maga. From the website: "Our training focuses on real-life, street-proven self-defense techniques while integrating extensive fitness conditioning to further one's skill sets." New location to open at Second Avenue & 49th Street.
  • Masala Bhangra at the Ailey Extension in the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. From the website: "A complete cardiovascular workout that blends traditional Bhangra dance steps with the exhilaration of Bollywood moves."
  • Torch at Equinox. From the website: "Urban and YouTube legends THE BarTendaz 'bring it' straight from the parks of HARLEM! to your workout. Natural movements to burn fat, tone your body, and bring your energy levels to a new high!"
  • Beach Body at Crunch Gym. From the website: "We focus and sculpting and toning a different body part each week to get your ready to hit the sand and surf with a beach-ready bod."
  • Super Pole at Sheila Kelley S Factor. From the website: "This two-hour pole class starts with a challenging, low-impact warm-up and progresses to a wide range of S Factor pole tricks from beginner to intermediate."
