Pete Rock and DJ Premier to Battle Wednesday

Pete Rock and DJ Premier will battle for turntable supremacy at a free SummerStage event Wednesday.

As part of the 20th anniversary celebration of Lyricist Lounge, the legendary hip-hop DJs/producers will perform dueling sets at East River Park on Manhattan's Lower East Side, at 7 p.m.

Also known as Soul Brother Number One, and The Chocolate Boy Wunda, Pete Rock was one half of the important golden era hip-hop group, Pete Rock and CL Smooth. As a producer, Pete Rock is considered a pioneer, creating a style that blended soul, funk and jazz samples seamlessly into hip-hop beats. He has produced songs for artists such as Nas, Kanye West and Jay-Z, to name a few.

Together with the late rapper Guru, DJ Premier became famous as the instrumental half of the influential group Gang Starr. Premier has come to be widely recognized as one of the greatest hip-hop producers of all time. His production has appeared on records by Nas, Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z, along with many others.

Come out Wednesday for what will surely be a memorable night, as these two hip-hop heavyweights go head-to-head.
