Indie Options For Fashion's Night Out

For most, Fashion’s Night Out marks an occasion to flex their credit limits while sipping free drinks at their favorite retail stores, but for others it is an evening to hunt for a different kind of bargain – free concerts in cramped spaces.

While The Thread has already laid out their list of the 30 Best Spots to Celebrate tonight’s festivities, Nonstop Sound would like to present you with the top options for going indie on a night so decidedly corporate.

White Rabbits, Bear Hands & Lissy Trullie @ Rockefeller Center: This triple bill is the pinnacle of the FNO indie scene, and with the weather finally turning for the better it should be your first stop in this evening's proceedings.

Neon Indian @ Mondrian Hotel (150 Lafayette): Seeing this performance will require a bit of a effort, as interested parties will need to hit up the Philip Lim boutique on 115 Mercer St. to grab tickets to the private performance in the hotel’s penthouse later this evening. It will all be worth it as the brave fans are sure to get a sneak peak at Neon Indian’s new album Era Extrana that is due out Sept. 13.

Best Coast @ Helmut Lang (93 Mercer St.):  Who wouldn’t want to see what lead singer Bethany Cosentino wears this evening while standing around and sipping drinks by Death + Company and munching goodies from Luke’s Lobster? Also, we hear they play pretty mean lo-fi, garage pop.

Beach Fossils @ Bloomingdales (59th & Lexington): This one should prove to be interesting as the Brooklyn boys take to the streets for a free performance at 7 p.m. Their spaced-out compositions should turn some heads in midtown.

And finally…

Beth Ditto @ MAC Cosmetics (109 Spring): Sure, the queen is only scheduled to sing two songs this evening, but this madhouse will be worth it if only for the people watching. Get there early if you want to stand a chance at seeing Ms. Ditto in all her fabulous glory.
